FAQs

Will you send me some pictures of my cats when you see them?

Of course! I will send you photos and little updates every day, even if there’s not much to say other than everyone is doing well, just to set your mind at ease. If you would rather I did not update you unless it’s important, I’m happy to respect that as well.

How many years of experience do you have caring for cats?

I have been cat sitting full time 3 years now, I also spent a year working in the cat room at Purringtons, Portland’s cat cafe, now sadly closed. In addition to that, I have three cats of my own, all seniors now, that have taught me so much about cat care and cat behavior over the years.

How far in advance should I book/can I book last minute?

If you know you are taking a vacation 3 months from now, go ahead and book it! I do get fully booked some weekends and always completely booked during major holidays, so the sooner you book, the better. I also do take last minute bookings, for regular clients I can almost always squeeze you in, so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you decide you want to take a last minute weekend trip.

Will you water my plants?

This is actually the most common question I get. Yes, I am happy to water your indoor plants. If you would like me to water your yards, I would prefer you book a 60 minute appointment so your cat/cats can still get quality human interaction time. Also happy to bring in mail and packages, roll your garbage bins in/out as part of a regular drop-in visit.

Can you take care of my chickens/fish/hamster/etc?

I am happy to do extra little tasks that your other pets may require.

What if my cat has a medical emergency when I’m gone?

Before your first booking, you will fill out an intake form with your vets information. If your cat has an emergency while you are gone, the first thing I will do is contact you and we can discuss what we think needs to happen. If I cannot get ahold of you and I believe it is a true emergency, I will try to get them into your vet. If that is not possible, I will take them to an emergency vet.

What if YOU have an emergency and cannot make it to your scheduled appointment with my cats?

Another section of my initial intake form is for you to enter an emergency contact. I will first contact you to let you know of the situation so you can contact your backup person. If I can’t get ahold of you, I will contact them myself to work out the details. So far I have never missed any of my appointments, but of course you never know what may happen and we need to make sure we cover all bases.

My cat requires medication, are you able to administer this?

Ideally yes, but if you think your cat will become fearful and possibly aggressive with a new person trying to administer their medication, you need to let me know so we can work on a plan B if I am unsuccessful. I have found most cats will accept their medications when ground up and put into a squeezy treat. Also orally compounded medications are usually a lot easier to administer than pills, so that may be something to explore with your vet. These are all things we can discuss during our first meeting.

My cat is a door dasher, please make sure they don’t get out.

My number one priority is your cat’s safety. I am incredibly careful when opening and closing doors.

Do you have references?

Yes, I am happy to provide you with three current client’s contact info (with their permission, of course) as references.
